Eric Liddell and Aiden Harper
established TFL (Teaching Future Leaders) so that we might provide a full programme of interactive, student
leadership courses that attract and engage students and teachers as they pursue the development of those critical
skills necessary to fulfil the social and economic aspirations of the individual, the community and the nation.
Our objectives were clear: - To promote both leadership
and management qualifications in schools and other educational institutions.
- To empower young people through the development of the skills they will need as leaders and
managers in the 21st century.
- To work in partnership with
education establishments to create a flexible and accessible provision that raises student skills to a level
that will contribute decisively to economic and social prosperity.
- To produce programmes relevant to the cultural context of the student.
TFL Education has forged a strong relationship with the Chartered
Management Institute (CMI). The CMI is the only chartered professional body in the UK dedicated
to promoting the highest standards for management and leadership excellence. The Institute is the guardian of the
National Occupational Standards for Management and Leadership and sets the standards that others follow. With
their encouragement, we have re written several of the Institute’s professional programmes to make them
accessible to young people. The Level 2 Award in Team
Leading and the Level 3 Award in First
Line Management provide strong evidence to gatekeepers of Higher Education and captains of
industry that our young people are far more capable than they are often credited to be. Our success in driving
this message in to schools has led to TFL being honoured as the CMI’s
Education Ambassadors. As part of this remit, we look forward to playing a leading role in
the development of the CMI Chartered Academy.
Our energies have also been directed overseas where we have identified top class schools or school groups
to join with us to become Flagship Schools for
Leadership. These schools will showcase our courses and become the city/regional hub for our
student workshops. Our flagship schools are also recognised by the CMI. The school is awarded a specially
licensed plaque which allows that institution to use the CMI logo on stationery and signage.
